Capt. Samuel Whitman was a noted breeder of horses and much of the collection deals with the subject. Others represented are Whitman's father, John Whitman, his wife, Abigail Abbott Whitman, and his son, Samuel Whitman (a sheep breeder). Among the probate records is a document mentioning the land left to Abigail Abbott Whitman by the Widow Abbott. Records of church contributors may be found in the collection as well.
